Bombers share Cameroon heroics with Bwaise-Kawaala Ghetto Youths

Uganda National Boxing team (Bombers) have shared their success at the just concluded Africa Elite Boxing Championship with the Ghetto Youths of Bwaise and Kawaala.

The Bombers returned with seven medals from the event that was held in Cameroon, Yaounde.

On Wednesday, the Bombers together with the Uganda Boxing Federation President Moses Muhangi returned to Kyamys, Bwaise the venue where the team was flagged off two weeks ago before their heroics in Cameroon to celebrate their success with the Ghetto Youths in the community.

At the event in Bwaise, there was bull roasting entertainment among other activities.

“It is important for us as a Federation to always give back to our communities where we get our boxers, our talents from and we have succeeded in the recent Championship. We managed to win seven medals and there was no better way to celebrate with our people. So we had to return back to our people so that we stay connected with them and give them encouragement.” Said the UBF boss Muhangi

“It was great to return to the place that gave us blessing before heading to Cameroon. Ghetto nurtured us and now we are inspirational figures in the country. I believe anyone from the slums can achieve success just like me so it was important for us to share our joy with the people who know us better.” Said Wasswa.

Uganda finished ninth at the event in Cameroon garnering seven medals (two silver and five bronze medals).

The medal tally in Cameroon is Uganda’s best ever at the Africa Boxing Championship.

Silver medalists Ssali Wasswa Amir and Erina Namutebi both scooped prize money worth $10000 while bronze medalists Ukasha Matovu, Geko Solomon, Ronald Okello, Grace Nankinga and Lady’s captain Emily Nakalema each got $5000.

Focus will now return to the Uganda Boxing Federation Champions league slated for Saturday, 12th August at New Obligato.
