STANBIC UGANDA CUP: Andrew Nsamba’s Rwenzori Lions edge Bumate to reach round of 64

Rwenzori Lions is one of the teams that progressed to the round of 64 of the Stanbic Uganda Cup 2024 after eliminating Bumate FC 1-0 courtesy of David Opio’s 27 minute goal.

In the previous edition, Rwenzori Lions was eliminated by Express FC 8-7 after both sides playing to a one all draw at Muteesa II Stadium Wankulukuku.

Opio scored for Rwenzori Lions before Isaac Wagoina levelling the game from the spot ending in a one all full-time draw.

Nsamba has revealed his sides targets as their preparations for the next round intesfy,

“Last season Express FC fought so hard to eliminate us at the round of 32, this time we deserve better our target is the last four and going beyond.”

On their ambitions to join the FUFA Big League, Nsamba believes after two attempts their time is now,

Last season, Rwenzori Lions were eliminated by Express FC

“The last two previous seasons we have made it to the play off final but failed make it to the FUFA Big League, we believe we learn through mistakes we believe we have rectified them come next season we are playing in the FUFA Big League.”

Nsamba has led Rwenzori Lions to two promotional play off finals in the 2021-2022 season they lost to Buhimba Saints United FC 4-3 in spot kicks after the two sides playing to a goalless full-time draw in the Kitara Regional League Promotional play off final

Last season again the lost 1-0 to Buhimba Saints United FC that eventually defeated Ntoda FC 1-0 to earn the FUFA Big League promotion.
