Vipers SC secured a place in the last 16 of the 51st edition of the Stanbic Uganda Cup with a 2-0 victory over Mbarara City FC on Thursday at Kitende.

This was the first ever Stanbic Uganda Cup tie to be played under the floodlights.

Yunus Sentamu scored for the Venoms in the first period before Allan Okello secured their victory in the second period.

It should he remembered that both players were on target during Vipers 2-0 win over rivals KCCA FC over the weekend.

Mbarara City finished the game with ten men after their skipper Edward Namasa was sent off for a second yellow card in the second period.

In the 38th minute, Sentamu headed Vipers into a deserved lead.

Abdul Karim Watambala had a golden opportunity to double their advantage before the first half breather but blasted his effort over the bar.

Henry Kitegenyi had Mbarara City’s best chance midway in the second half when he had goalkeeper Denis Kiggundu at the disposal but failed to hit the target.

Okello put the score beyond the Ankole Lions’ reach when his free kick strike sensationally beat goalkeeper Abdul Kimera.

Vipers join SC Villa, Rwenzori Lions, Total FC and holders Kitara FC into the last 16.
