The Uganda Secondary School Sports Association (USSSA) has released a statement on the disqualification of Jinja Progressive Academy (JIPRA) at the ongoing U-20 National Boys’ football championship in Ngora District.
JIPRA officials attacked the assistant referee during their semifinal contest with St Mary’s Secondary School Kitende for an offside call.
With Kitende leading 1-0, courtesy of a Dennis Kisiriko 3rd minute penalty, JIPRA thought they had got their leveller in the 39th minute but the assistant flagged for offside.
From that moment, ugly incidents happened as the match officials were rescued from the playground by Police.
According to USSSA, St Mary’s Secondary School Kitende will now renew their rivalry with Buddo SS in the final due on Wednesday, 14th May in Ngora.
USSSA Disciplinary Action on JIPRA
Following an investigation by the National Organizing Committee, the school was found guilty of:
•Fielding ineligible players, Isabirye Adrian and Ntege Musa, both of whom had accumulated two yellow cards.
•Engaging in violent conduct, including the assault of match officials and incitement of crowd violence — a breach of USSSA Rules 8.1 and 8.2.
As a result, the following sanctions have been imposed:
•Forfeiture of the semifinal match.
•Immediate expulsion from the championship.
Immediate eviction from the games village and surrounding areas in Ngora District.
•Further disciplinary action will be communicated after briefing the Ministry of Education and Sports
