Uganda Cranes will have 23 players making their maiden appearance at the Africa Cup of nations during the 2025 event in Morocco.
On Wednesday, Cranes head coach Paul Joseph Put named his 28-man squad that will represent Uganda at the continental showpiece due to kick off this month.
Only five players in Put’s final squad for AFCON 2025 have ever represented Uganda at the continental showpiece.
These are experienced goalkeeper Denis Onyango featured at the 2017 and 2019 tournaments.
Onyango was the skipper when Uganda reached the last 16 in the 2019 edition.
Current Captain Khalid Aucho, Isaac Muleme also played for the Cranes at the showpieces in the 2017 and 2019 editions.
Salim Jamal Magoola was also part of the 2017 and 2019 final squad while Timothy Denis Awanyi was in the squad for the 2019 edition during Sebastien Desabre’s reign.
The other 23 players in the squad for this year’s event who include Allan Okello, Jude Ssemugabi, Reagan Mpande, Rogers Mato, James Bogere, Lorenzen Melvyn, Ivan Ahimbisibwe, Steven Mukwala, Denis Omedi, Travis Mutyaba, Bobosi Byaruhanga, Baba Al Hassan, Ronald Ssekiganda, Elio Capradossi, Kenneth Semakula, Toby Sibbick, Jordan Obita, Aziz Kayondo, Rogers Torach, Hilary Mukundane will be making their maiden AFCON appearances.
