USSSA introduces new Sports Disciplines

The Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) has confirmed the induction of new sports disciplines.

According to USSSA President Justus Mugisha the games have been introduced to maintain mass sports which refers to having as many kid participation in the schools’ championships.

The games introduced by USSSA are;

*Baseball, Softball and Baseball 5 (Boys & Girls
*Cricket (Boys & Girls)
*Golf (Boys & Girls)
*Kabaddi (Boys & Girls)
*Kho Kho (Boys & Girls)
*Pickleball (Boys & Girls)

Through these reforms and initiatives, USSSA continues to reinforce its commitment to competition, leadership, and discipline, ensuring that school sports in Uganda remain structured, competitive, and aligned with international standards.

Meanwhile, significant reforms have been introduced in athletics to ensure better planning and athlete development. The season will feature two athletics meets: The First meet will be held in February to March while the Second meet is scheduled for April – May.

After the two athletics meet ups, a national training camp is to be staged in May this year. With the qualification pathway structured as follows;

District qualifiers: May
Zonal qualifiers: June
National Championships: July

Following the qualification phase, a residential camp in July to prepare athletes for the FEASSA Games, ensuring competitive readiness later in August in Morogoro, Tanzania.
