The Uganda Premier league fans through their umbrella Platinum Football Fans Association Uganda Limited have addressed the media to review their first round observations for the 2025/26 UPL campaign.
Led by their chairman Sultan Kivumbi Hakim, the fans thanked FUFA for suspending the new league format that had been introduced at the start of the season.
“From the beginning of this season, our association, together with several clubs and other football stakeholders, raised concerns about the proposed league format. These concerns centered on sporting integrity, fairness, financial sustainability for clubs, and the importance of adequate consultation with fans and stakeholders.”

“At that time, some fans and stakeholders took a principled stand, including peaceful boycotts and public engagement, to ensure that the voice of supporters was heard. We wish to appreciate the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) for listening to these concerns and taking steps to review the situation and engage stakeholders in dialogue.
The developments of this season have demonstrated important lessons for Ugandan football. Fans remain central stakeholders in the game, and dialogue and transparency are essential in maintaining trust within the football ecosystem. Unity among stakeholders, fans, clubs, administrators, sponsors, and players is key to the continued growth of the league.”
They also urged the federation to decide the fate of the unplayed first round contest between Kitara FC and Vipers SC.
“We note that there are still unanswered questions regarding certain fixtures, including the match between Kitara Football Club and Vipers Sports Club, which remains unplayed despite the completion of the first round. We believe clarity and timely communication on such matters are important for maintaining transparency and fairness in the competition. From the first round of the league, the key shortcomings observed include, concerns regarding integrity and allegations of match manipulation.
Player welfare and salary payment challenges at some clubs.Fixture management and communication gaps affecting the competition schedule.
The need for continued stakeholder consultation on major league decisions.
As supporters of Ugandan football, we raise these observations in a constructive spirit. Our intention is not to criticize for its own sake, but to encourage improvements that will strengthen the league, protect players, and restore full confidence among supporters and the general public.
Going forward, the Platinum Football Fans Association Uganda Limited commits to: Continuing to represent the voice of football fans in a constructive and responsible manner.
Promoting positive fan engagement and stadium attendance.
Supporting initiatives that improve professionalism, transparency, and competitiveness ni Ugandan football.
We call upon all fans, clubs, administrators, and partners to work together to rebuild trust and ensure that the StarTimes Uganda Premier League continues to grow ni quality, integrity, and excitement.Football belongs to the fans, and together we can build a stronger future for the game in the country.”
