Andrew Otim scored the all important goal as nine-time Stanbic Uganda Cup champions SC Villa edged this year’s tournament surprise package Happy Boys Kagaba on Easter Monday.
The Jogoos broke Kagaba’s resilience in the 72nd minute when Otim tapped home the only goal of the contest at Kassanda.
Before Monday’s defeat, Kagaba had charmed the football fraternity with an unlikely streak of wins during their Uganda Cup campaign .
SC Villa return to the semifinals of the competition for the first time since the 2017/18 season when they were eliminated by Vipers SC 1-0 in the two legged semifinal.
SC Villa join holders Vipers SC, URA FC and Kitara FC in the semifinals of the competition.
Vipers eliminated NEC FC 4-3 on penalties after a goalless draw in normal and extra-time while URA FC dramatically ended KCCA FC’s hopes of silverware with 4-2 on penalties after a 2-all draw.
2024 Stanbic Uganda Cup winners Kitara FC ejected Express FC 3-0 to reach the semifinal of the competition for the a third consecutive year.
