Kenneth Semakula made his Egyptian Premier League debut for his new side Al Ittihad Alexandria in a goalless draw against holders Zamalek SC in Cairo.
Semakula recently joined Al Ittihad Alexandria on a three year contract as a free agent from Saudi Arabian second tier side Al Adalah SC.
The Uganda Cranes defensive midfielder played the entire game for Al Ittihad and got booked for a foul on Mahmoud Bentagy in the 39th minute.
Semakula and teammates held on and got a point off Zamalek who came into the new season as the league champions having won last season’s title at the expense of Al Ahly and Pyramids FC.
Semakula’s debut automatically made him the third Uganda to play for Al Ittihad Alexandria after Emmanuel Okwi and Gavin Kizito Mugweri.
Okwi had two seasons at Al Ittihad between 2019-2021 while Gavin had one year at the club before returning to SC Villa in 2023.
Al Ittihad Alexandria will host Cleopatra Ceremica in their subsequent league fixture on Saturday 28th August.
