Police gives fresh update on the murder of former SC Villa captain David Owori

The Uganda Police Force has made significant progress in the investigation into the murder and robbery of former SC Villa captain David Owori, who was attacked near his residence on 4th August 2026.
According to Police, Owori was waylaid near his home, robbed of his mobile phone and other personal belongings, and later succumbed to his injuries.
Through an intelligence-led operation, Police traced the deceased’s mobile phone, leading to the identification of individuals suspected of dealing in stolen electronic devices.
The recovery of the phone and further intelligence gathered led to the arrest of seven (7) suspects allegedly linked to Owori’s murder and other violent robberies in Nsambya, Nabisaalu and Makindye.
Police said investigations have established that stolen phones and other devices are often channeled through networks of individuals who buy, keep, sell or conceal property whose ownership cannot be satisfactorily explained an illicit trade that creates a ready market for criminal gangs.
Four of the suspects Ahumuza David, Lubega Martin, Ssegawa Francis and Munguci Elvis have been strongly linked to other crime scenes, including the alleged robbery of a Congolese national who was assaulted with a blunt object and robbed of a mobile phone and other property in Makindye Division on 4th August 2026, the same night Owori was attacked.
Further investigations have also linked Ahumuza David and Magumba Arafat to an aggravated robbery case involving Mugisha Edrisa who was allegedly struck with a blunt object during a robbery in Makindye Division on 31st July 2026.
The Police have strongly cautioned the public against buying mobile phones, tablets, computers, SIM cards, identity documents, bags and other valuables whose source or ownership is doubtful.
“Some of the items sold cheaply on the illegal market are property stolen from victims of violent robberies. Some victims have been seriously injured while others, including the late David Owor, have tragically lost their lives,” Police said in a statement.
Police Advisory:
•Buy electronic devices only from known and legitimate dealers
•Be cautious of unusually cheap items and rushed transactions
•Where possible, verify the IMEI or serial number before purchase
•Immediately report suspected stolen property to the nearest Police station
Police said operations targeting the illicit trade in suspected stolen electronic devices are ongoing, and urged members of the public who have lost property to provide proof of ownership when seeking recovery.
The public has been urged to remain vigilant and to promptly report suspicious persons and activities to help disrupt the market for stolen property.
