Super-Sub Asiki rescues point for Kitara in Villa stalemate

Second-half substitute Crispus Asiki scored a last-gasp equalizer as Kitara FC salvaged a point in a 1-1 draw against SC Villa at Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku on Saturday.
Debutant Andrew Okumu had given the 17-time champions the perfect start, giving Villa the lead in the 8th minute to send the home fans into raptures.
George Ssenkaaba, facing his former paymasters, had a glorious chance to level matters for the visitors midway through the first half but his effort was acrobatically cleared off the line by Simon Ssemayange.
Villa should have put the game to bed in the second half. Reagan Mpande had a golden opportunity to double the lead after being fed by star man Patrick Kakande, but fluffed his lines.
Substitute Andrew Otim also fired over the bar from another inviting ball by Kakande as the Jogoos pushed for a second.
At the other end, Kabon Living had his effort crash against the post in the closing stages after a rare mistake from Villa goalkeeper David Lukwago, a warning sign for Zeljko Kovacevic men.
Pressure finally paid off for Kitara in the final minute. Asiki rose highest to head home the leveller from a pinpoint cross, earning the Royals a deserved point.
Villa next face URA FC on Thursday, September 3 at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, while Kitara turn their attention to the CAF Confederation Cup when they face Mogadishu City Club on Sunday, September 6.
