AFCON 2027: Uganda on course after second CAF inspection- Dr. Mugimba

The Chairperson of the Communications and Promotions Subcommittee, Dr. Denis Mugimba, has given an update on the second physical inspection held by CAF of the sports facilities for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
According to Dr. Mugimba, the inspection covered the three main stadia and nine of the twelve designated training facilities.
“The second physical inspection by CAF of the sports facilities for AFCON 2027, that is Akii-Bua Olympic Stadium (AKOS), Hoima City Stadium (HCS), and Mandela National Stadium (MNS) as well as the related nine out of the twelve Training Facilities at AKOS Annex TF, HCS Annex TF, MNS Annex TF, Makerere University TF, Kyambogo University TF, FUFA Kadiba TF, Hoima Booma Grounds TF, Pece Memorial Stadium TF, and Gulu University TF has just concluded,” Dr. Mugimba said.
Uganda On Course
Dr. Mugimba confirmed that the country remains on track to meet CAF deadlines.
“Overall, as a country we are on course to have all the three stadia, i.e. Hoima City Stadium, Mandela National Stadium, Akii-Bua Olympic Stadium ready by end of December 2026 and ten out of the twelve Training Facilities. We expect FUFA Kadiba and Sir Tito Winyi Senior Secondary School TFs to be ready by end of January 2027 given that they were handed over to the contractor later,” he added.
Uganda will co-host the 2027 AFCON alongside Kenya and Tanzania under the Pamoja bid. It will be the first ever AFCON competition to be staged in three nations.
