Uganda Cranes defender Halid Lwaliwa has agreed terms with Libyan Premier League side Al Bashayer Misrata SC, Swift Sports Uganda understands.
The experienced centre-back has been a free agent since his departure from Al Shabab SC in Oman.
Lwaliwa, who has had stints in different leagues across Asia and Europe, is expected to sign a two-year employment contract at the Libyan outfit.
The former Vipers SC skipper will join midfielder Norman Odipio who completed a move to Bashayer Misrata earlier this week from Maroons FC.
Lwaliwa left Vipers in 2022 after an impressive eight-year spell at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, where he won multiple domestic honours.
Following his departure at Vipers, Lwaliwa moved to North Macedonia, joining top-flight side FK Bregalnica Štip before crossing to Saudi Arabian side Al-Ain FC and later to Al Shabab SC in Oman.
He is now set to become the fourth Ugandan to play in the Libyan Premier League after Steven Mukwala, defender Richard Juuko Kassaga and his soon-to-be teammate Odipio.
The Libyan Premier League is set to kick off on October 8th with 28 teams taking part in two groups of 14 each.
