FUFA increases Uganda Premier League Prize Money

David GOMBE

FUFA has announced an increase in the Uganda Premier League’s total prize money from Sh128 million to Sh600 million.

FUFA President Moses Magogo made the announcement at the 102nd General Assembly held at Hotel Triangle in Mbarara. The development means the league champions, who have been earning Shs60m in previous seasons, will now earn Shs200 million.

“We have been paying Sh735m to different winners of FUFA competitions, and that has been increased to Sh1.54bn, especially the Uganda Premier League that will now take Sh600m, including the winner taking Sh200m from the previous Sh60m,” Magogo said.

Overall, the prize money for FUFA competitions has now more than doubled from Sh735 million to Sh1.54 billion.

UPL champions will now get Sh140 million more, while the overall prize pool for the league rises by Sh472 million.

Meanwhile, at the Assembly, projected income sources totalling UGX 122.1 billion were presented. These include UGX 24 billion from FIFA, UGX 4.5 billion from CAF subvention, UGX 8 billion from CAF television rights, UGX 74.5 billion from Government, UGX 7.3 billion from partners and sponsors, UGX 3 billion from new revenue streams and UGX 700 million from other sources.

The expenditure forecast stands at UGX 192.4 billion, of which UGX 122.1 billion is prioritized, leaving an unfunded gap of UGX 70.2 billion.
