Ugandan champions Vipers SC are in advanced stages of signing left back Shafik Batambuze, Swift Sports reliably confirms.

Batambuze has spent the last one and half season in Tanzania with Singida Big Stars.

Swift Sports understands Batambuze is seen as the direct replacement of Dissan Galiwango who left the club early this month.

Vipers are expected to finalize the transfer in the coming days in a bid to reinforce their squad for the upcoming CAF Champions League and 2023/24 season.

The lanky left back comes with experience having featured for Zambia’s Kabwe Warriors as well as Kenyan giants Gor Mahia, Tusker FC and Sofapaka.

He also played for Simba FC and SC Villa both in Uganda as well as Kenyan sides Western Stima and Muhoroni Youth and Tanzania’s now defunct Singida United.

He comes after guiding Singida Big Stars to a maiden CAF Confederation Cup qualification, a year after guiding them to a promotion from the second tier.

He has three caps with the national team The Cranes and was part of the squad that represented Uganda in the 2017 AFCON in Gabon.

As earlier reported by this website, the Venoms already signed David Bagoole on a two year deal during the course of this week.

Batambuze is expected to boost the club’s left back position which also has Isa Mubiru.
