The 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying draw has been held on Thursday at the CAF 45th ordinary General Assembly in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
The CAF member Associations were drawn into nine groups at the draw.
Uganda who have never qualified for the showpiece are in Group G alongside Algeria, Guinea, Mozambique,Botswana and Somalia.
Algeria are also in the same 2023 Africa Cup of nations Qualification group with Uganda. They managed to beat Uganda home and way (2-0 and 2-1 respectively).
2022 World Cup semifinalists Morocco have been drawn in Group E alongside Zambia, Congo Brazzaville, Tanzania, Niger and Eritrea.
African Champions Senegal are in Group B with the likes of DR Congo, Mauritania, Togo, Sudan and South Sudan.
Record African Champions Egypt who missed out for a place at the Qatar showpiece are in Group A with Burkina Faso, Guinea Bissau, Ethiopia and Djibouti.
Road to the 2026 World Cup will kickoff in November this year.
The top teams in the nine groups after 10 matches home and away will prevail to the 2026 World Cup to be co-hosted by USA, Mexico and Canada.
The runners up from the groups will play in a CAF Play-Off tournament with the eventual winners taking part in the inter-confederation play-offs.
For starters, the 2026 FIFA World Cup will see an increase in the participating teams from the current 32 to 48 which also consequently leads the increase in number of teams from CAF (Africa) from 5 to 9 or possibly 10 depending on the outcome of the intercontinental playoffs.
