2023 World Athletics Championship: USA tops Medal table as Uganda finishes 11th

The 2023 World Athletics Championship climaxed on Sunday 27th August in Hungary, Budapest.
A record total of 2100 athletes from 195 countries competed in the Hungarian capital.
Uganda who finished 16th at the Oregon Championship last year on the medal were 11th this time courtesy of two gold medals from Joshua Cheptegei and Victor Kiplangat.
Cheptegei retained his 10000m World title for a third consecutive time while Kiplangat clinched the Marathon World title on the final of the 19th edition of the Championship in Budapest.
USA topped the medal table with 29 in total; 13 gold medals, 8 silvers and 9 bronze medals followed by Canada who garnered 4 golds, 2 silvers.
Spain were third with five medals, 4 golds, 1 silver followed by Jamaica who managed 3 golds, 5 silvers and 4 bronze medals.
At the Championship in Budapest, USA sprinters Noah Lyles and Sha’Carri Richardson, Kenyan middle distance runner Faith Kipyegon, Dutch 400m hurdle icon Femke Bol and dominant Spanish walkers Alvaro Martin and Maria Perez emerged as multiple title winners.
Lyles won the 100m and 200m double and anchored the USA men’s 4x100m relay team to victory, while Richardson set a championship record of 10.65 to win her first global title in the 100m, then anchored the USA team to a second championship record in the women’s 4x100m relay.
Kipyegon clinched a historic double, becoming the first woman to win both the 1500m and 5000m at the World Athletics Championships after breaking the world records over both distances this year.
