Former Ethiopia Women’s national team head coach Asefa Firew Hailegebreal has been unveiled as the head coach for Uganda Women’s Super league side Kampala Queens FC.

He joins on a two year deal and will be expected to guide the team back to the title from which they were dethroned by Kawempe Muslim.

In his remarks, the Ethiopian revealed that he is synomous with a few Kampala Queens players who have featured with the Crested Cranes.

“I know a couple of players who I have seen playing for the Uganda national team and I know we can work well because the players make the system and not the system to make the players”

He is famously remembered for guiding Ethiopia to the CECAFA U20 Women’s Championship in 2021 at Njeru after coming from two goals down to beat Uganda 3-2 with a player less.

Last week, Kampala Queens sacked Charles Ayiekoh Lukula following a string of bad results that saw him win only 6 points from 5 games.

His successor on interim basis Sharon Acheng Kizza was in charge of the team’s 2-0 victory over Rines at Kabaka Kyabaggu.

Hailegebreal first task in charge of Kampala Queens will be against Amus College WFC on 9th November at Lugogo.

Kampala Queens are four points adrift of leaders Kawempe Muslim having garnered nine points in their opening five games of the Finance Trust Bank Women’s Super League
