Former Vipers midfielder Ashiraf Mugume salvaged a late point for KCCA FC against Vipers SC in the top of the table clash at Kitende on Saturday.

Mugume who came on as a second half substitute netted deep in stoppage time to sensationally deny his former paymasters maximum points in a closely contested game.

Milton Karisa had given the Venoms the lead in the first half.

Earlier in the game, Rogers Torach had a decent opportunity to fire the Venoms into the lead but blasted over the bar with the goal at his mercy.

Allan Okello who was facing his former side also had a decent chance to score for the Venoms but he had his effort in the 8th minute go wide.

Two minutes to the half time break, Yunus Sentamu fed Grant Mastiko whose attempt was cleared off the line by KCCA FC defender Muhamood Hassan.

Karisa headed Vipers into the lead after being fed by a quality Derrick Ndahiro cross in the second minute of added time.

Sadat Anaku came close to restoring parity for the visitors in the 69th minute but was denied by goalkeeper Denis Kiggundu.

With the game seemingly destined for a Vipers win, Mugume acrobatically beat Kiggundu in the second minute of added time to send the yellow and blue faithfuls into elation and despair for Vipers.

The results see KCCA stay at the top of the table with 18 points a point above Vipers whose perfect home record ended.

Before the stalemate, Vipers had won all the three games they had hosted at Kitende this term and were searching for their fifth consecutive win since John Ayala Luyinda and Fred Muhumuza took over helms.
