South Africa head coach Hugo Broos has threatened to resign if his side fails to secure a slot to Morocco’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Bafana Bafana will lock horns with Uganda in Group K of their qualification campaign on Friday at Mandela National Stadium in Namboole.
Broos and his charges are currently second in the group with eight points and need just two points from their final games to progress to the final tournament.
Uganda tops the group with 10 points while Congo Brazzaville are third on four points.
“It would be a little shame if we don’t qualify for [2025] Afcon. Honestly, we have the quality, we are bronze medalists,” Said Broos before
“Can you imagine that the bronze medal of nine months ago can’t even qualify for the next Afcon? So, I am not thinking about that because again, my confidence is big in this team, but we can’t. We can’t accept if we shouldn’t be qualified for Afcon.”
“If we lose both games, five minutes after the game I’m on the flight to Belgium. You can be sure of it.”
“If we can’t win, okay Uganda [away is tough], but at home against South Sudan, I tell you I will immediately take a flight, and you’ll never see me again.” Said Broos
Broos’ South Africa are expected to arrive in Uganda on Thursday morning for their crucial game against Uganda Cranes who are managed by his Belgian compatriot Paul Put.
Both sides played out to a 2-2 draw in their first round meeting in Johannesburg in September.
South Africa will then host South Sudan in the final game of their qualification campaign while Uganda will play Congo Brazzaville.
