The Confederation of African Football has announced the shortlists for each of the seven men’s categories for the forthcoming CAF Awards.
For the CAF Player of the Year 2024 top prize, Ivory Coast and Brighton & Hove winger Simon Adingra who was key in Ivory Coast’s Africa Cup of Nations triumph earlier this year makes the cut.
He will battle with Nigeria and Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman, Morocco and PSG’s Achraf Hakim, Mamelodi Sundowns and South Africa Goalkeeper Ronwen Williams and Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy who also features for Borussia Dortmund.
Besides helping Nigeria reach the AFCON Final in Ivory Coast, Lookman also played a key role in Atalanta’s Europa League triumph.
The Nigerian forward scored a hat-trick for Atalanta in their 3-0 Europa League victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the final.
In fact, he became the first man in the history of the UEFA Europa League to score a hat-trick in a one-legged final.
The CAF Awards 2024 cover the period between January 2024 and October 2024.
The winners in the seven categories will be announced at the awards ceremony due in Morocco on December, 16th.
