Joseph Kasozi was the overall winner in the Gross-Amateurs category at the 26th edition of the Kinyara Golf Open at the par-71 Kinyara golf course in Masindi.
Kasozi a member of the Uganda national team scored a total of 216 gross in 54 holes played over three rounds to become the overall winner.
Triumphant Kasozi was 11 shots from Ivan Sekulima and 16 shots from third places Abdullah Kakooza.
“I am delighted to have won the event. This is my maiden victory of the Kinyara golf open, so it’s really an exciting moment for me. This victory is also important to me since it gives me points for the world amateur golf system.” Kasozi expressed his delight
Lake Victoria Golf Resort and Spa member Sekulima came second with 76, 75, 76 (227) and Abdullah Kakooza of Mary Louise Simkins Memorial Golf course in Namulonge was third with 75, 76, 81 (232).
Christopher Basaliza 74, 77, 82 (233) was fourth while Godfrey Kambale scored 88, 73, 73 (234) to finish fifth. Samuel Bazaale was sixth with a score of 79, 80, 75 (234).
For starters, the top five amateurs share a prize money of Shs5M. This year, a total of 26 amateurs participated in the competition that started on Thursday, 21st November in Masindi.
The tournament is organized by Kinyara Sugar Works who are supported by Liaison Group, ICEA Lion Insurance, Gold Star Insurance Company Limited, UAP Old Mutual, Sanlam Insurance and MUA as the other partners.
