CAF CL: Aucho, Yanga eliminated after barren draw with MC Alger

Young Africans 0-0 MC Alger

Tanzanian champions Young Africans (Yanga) missed out on a CAF Champions League quarter final berth after being held to a 0-0 draw by Algeria’s MC Alger in Dar es Salaam.

Yanga came into the final and decisive Group A game with nothing to settle for but any victory if they were to qualify for the knock outs.

Their opponents MC Alger needed at least a draw and subsequently held on for so long to get their desired result.

Uganda Cranes skipper Khalid Aucho featured for Tanzanian champions who were unfortunate on the evening.

The result sent MC Alger to nine points, one above Yanga who finished third on the Group A table.

Florent Ibenge’s Al Hilal of Sudan finished as Group A winners with 10 points while TP Mazembe finished bottom with five points.

Denis Onyango is the only Uganda player left in the tournament but his Mamelodi Sundowns will have to beat AS FAR in the final game so as to progress to the quarter finals.
