Former referee Mashood Ssali handed New Role

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has appointed retired Referee Mashood Ssali as the Referees’ Development Manager.

Ssali whose appointment will effectively start on 1st February 2025 expressed his delight upon the appointment.

“I am grateful and honoured that, after 24 years on the field as a referee, I will now shift my focus on contributing to the development of refereeing in line with the FUFA Technical Masterplan. I will strive to deliver and meet the expectations of this role. However, this is not a one-man show as it requires teamwork to achieve the results.” Stated Ssali

His 24- year refereeing career came to an end on 6th January, 2025 during Vipers SC’s final game of the first round against Maroons FC at Kitende.

In his new role, Ssali will oversee the development and operational aspects of refereeing under the Football Development Department at the FUFA Secretariat, in close association with the FUFA Referees Standing Committee, to ensure the advancement of referees for both mass football and elite football performance.

The former referee is A Master’s degree holder in marketing and will replace Egesa Samuel, who served in the same role since 2010 before he left the role following the expiration of his contract.
