Lanky defender Othieno joins Lugazi FC

Lugazi FC have completed the signing of towering defender Joseph Othieno on a three year contract.

Until recently, Othieno was featuring for Burundi Premier League side Moso Sugar Football Club.

The lanky defender returns to the Uganda Premier having spent the last four years in the Burundi Primus League with Musongati FC, Buja City and recently Moso Sugar.

Othieno is a former player of the defunct Kira Young, Sports Club Victoria University, Ndejje University and UPDF FC in the Uganda Premier League.

Notably, he was captain of the Buddo Secondary School Team that won the Copa Coca Cola tournament in 2012 held in Tororo.

He also captained Buwekula Ssaza Team in the Buganda Masaza Cup in 2012.

Othieno, who previously played under coach Steven Bogere at UPDF, becomes the fourth signing of Lugazi FC.

Hussein Ssenoga, Shafiq Avemah and South Sudanese attacking midfielder Norman Lumu Eluzai are the other new signings.

Othieno is expected to forge a defensive partnership with the club captain Richard Ayiko and Paul Wasswa in a bid to secure safety.
