SC Villa face minnows Simba FC as Stanbic Uganda Cup round of 32 rolls over

The 51st edition of Stanbic Uganda Cup round of 32 will officially kickoff on Wednesday with three games on the menu.

SC Villa are huge favourites heading into Wednesday’s Stanbic Uganda Cup round of 32 tie against Buganda Regional team Simba FC at the Namulonge playground.

Simba FC are managed by Alex Gitta and will be aiming to shock the nine time competition winners.

Gitta’s side eliminated Uganda Premier league side Mbale Heroes 3-2 at the round of 64 while SC Villa thrashed Buganda Region’s Seeta United 3-0.

This season, the Stanbic Uganda Cup remains as the only chance of silverware for UPL champions SC Villa who currently trail leaders Vipers SC by 16 points.

SC Villa last won the Stanbic Uganda Cup in 2015 beating KCCA FC in the final that was played at Mandela National Stadium in Namboole.

In the other game on Wednesday, Buhimba United Saints FC who eliminated non league side Football Classroom 2-1 in the previous round will travel to Rwenzori Lions.

Rwenzori Lions who will be aiming to use their home advantage at Rusese Airlines playground in Kasese ejected Bumate 1-0 in the round of 64.

Meanwhile, 10-time and joint competition winners Express will make a trip to Yumbe to lock horns with Total FC.

Total reached this stage after eliminating Arua Hill while Express had a narrow win 1-0 over Red Devils in the previous round.

The winners of the competition represent Uganda in the CAF Confederation Cup. Kitara FC are the current holders following their triumph over NEC FC last term.
