NEC FC needed two second half goals to overcome a stubborn Lugazi FC on Saturday at MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.
Gideon Odongo and substitute Emmanuel Ajo goals were enough to maximize points for Hussein Mbalangu’s side.
NEC came into the contest after suffering a shocking Stanbic Uganda Cup elimination to Blacks Power.
Odongo broke the deadlock when he headed home a Paul Mucureezi corner kick at the hour mark.
Ajo who came on as a second half substitute sealed the points when he was fed by Mucureezi for his first goal in NEC FC colours.
NEC are now top of the Uganda Premier league table with the same number of points as second placed Vipers who host Mbarara City on Sunday.
Mbalangu’s men are top courtesy of their better head to head over Vipers following their 3-1 win over the six time league champions on match day one.
