Vipers SC returned to the top of the Uganda Premier league table with a slim victory over Mbarara City on Sunday at St.Mary’s Stadium in Kitende.
Allan Okello scored the all important goal from the spot as Vipers reclaimed top spot.
This was the Venoms first game since the shocking news regarding the death of their forward Abubaker Lawal.
To pay tribute, Vipers players donned shirts bearing Lawal’s name before kickoff and also had black armbands. A moment of silence was also observed.

The Ankole Lions had their head coach Charles Livingstone Mbabazi missing for unknown reasons.
Mbarara City custodian Abdul Kimera denied both Okello and Karim Watambala early into the game.
Yunus Sentamu also had a golden opportunity to put the home into the lead but failed to hit the target.
In the 66th minute, Vipers were awarded a penalty after Sentamu had been brought down in the forbidden area.
Okello stepped up and calmly converted his 14th goal of the campaign. This was the sixth penalty awarded to Vipers in the league this season.
Vipers are now top of the standings with 43 points with NEC FC second on 40 points.
