Newly Uganda Premier league champions Vipers SC edged KCCA FC 2-0 in the Stanbic Uganda Cup final held at FUFA Kadiba Stadium to complete a Cup double.
Livingstone Mulondo and Yunus Sentamu scored in either half as the Venoms completed their second double in three seasons.
Their first came in 2023 when they overcame Police FC in the Uganda Cup final held in Lira.
KCCA FC were seeking redemption following their poor season in the league as they finished fifth and 19 points below champions Vipers.
Mulondo opened the scoring in the 5th minute after KCCA FC had failed to deal with Allan Okello’s corner kick. The defender fired the Venoms into the lead for his fourth goal of the campaign.
Early in the second half, Ashiraf Mugume came close to restoring parity for KCCA FC but his strike rattled the crossbar.
Moments later, Sentamu doubled Vipers’ advantage with capitalizing on Peter Magambo’s miscue. Both Mulondo and Sentamu finished as joint top scorers in the Uganda Cup with four goals.
The Venoms held on to clinch their fourth Stanbic Uganda Cup trophy having previously won it in 2016, 2021, 2023.
KCCA FC’s trophy drought continues ahead of a busy transfer window. They last tested glory in 2019 when they won the CECAFA Kagame Cup.
The Kasasiro boys also miss out on continental football following their defeat in the final with NEC FC who finished second in the league taking the CAF Confederation Cup slot.
Vipers join SC Villa has the two sides to have won multiple doubles, though the Jogoos have six to their name. Co-coaches John Ayala and Fred Muhumuza join Alex Isabirye has the coaches to have led the Entebbe road based side to the Cup double.
