FUFA has appointed SC Villa’s Morley Byekwaso and Vipers’ Fred Muhumuza as coaches for the Uganda Cranes African Nations Championships (CHAN) tournament.

Byekwaso will serve as head coach while Muhumuza will be his assistant for the 2024 CHAN tournament to be co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania from August.

“FUFA is pleased to announce the appointment of the following coaching panel for the Uganda National Team participating in the CHAN 2024 tournament, scheduled to take place in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania from August 2nd to August 30th, 2025, under the Pamoja East Africa hosting arrangement.”

“The coaching panel comprises Fred Muhumuza and Morley Byekwaso. Both coaches will be supervised and monitored by Uganda Cranes Head Coach Paul Put throughout the team’s participation in the tournament.
Further technical personnel will be announced in due course, following the naming of the squad.” Stated FUFA

Both coaches previously served as Uganda Cranes coaches on interim basis in 2023 when Milutin Sredojevic alias Micho had been sacked. They were in charge for two friendly matches against Mali and Zambia played in Bamako and Sharjah respectively.

Byekwaso also worked as Uganda Hippos head coach leading them to the 2021 AFCON U-20 final and 2024 African Games final respectively.

Muhumuza was co-coach along with John Ayala Luyinda as Vipers secured an elusive double.

Uganda Cranes will be taking part in the CHAN tournament for a seventh time with their previous appearances coming in 2011, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020 and 2022.
