The Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) has confirmed that Senegal will take part in the four Nations CECAFA tournament due this month in Arusha, Tanzania.
Senegal replaces Congo Brazzaville who opted out due to logistical challenges.
“We are happy to announce that Senegal have accepted to take part in the Tournament after Congo Brazzaville communicated that they had encountered some logistical challenges and could not make the trip as earlier planned,” said Auka Gecheo, the CECAFA Executive Director.
CECAFA decided to organize the tournament to give the teams in the region opportunity to prepare ahead of the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 to be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania next month.
The Four Nations Tournament that will be played in a round robin format from July 21-27, 2025 at the Karatu Stadium in Arusha, Tanzania.
Kenya’s Harambee Stars will open their campaign against Uganda Cranes, while Tanzania face Senegal on the same day July 21st.
Match Day 2 will see Senegal take on Uganda, while Tanzania battle Kenya on July 24th.
Uganda and Senegal will open proceedings in the early kick-off on Thursday, July 24, before Kenya’s Harambee Stars face a fiery test against Tanzania later that afternoon.
The four teams will all field teams composed of home based players as they prepare for the CHAN tournament to be co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania between August 2nd-30th.
