Uganda Cranes suffered a 3-0 defeat to Algeria in their opening game of the 2024 CHAN tournament under the lights of Mandela National Stadium in Namboole on Monday.
Goals from Ayoub Ghezala, Meziane Abderrahmane and Soufine Beyazid handed the Algerian maximum points to go top of group C.
The two sides had previously faced off in 2011 CHAN tournament that was held in Sudan with Algeria powering to a 2-0 win at that time.
Ghezala gave the Desert Foxes the lead in the 35th minute before late goals from Abderrahmane and second half substitute Beyazid goals.
Meanwhile, Guinea beat Niger 1-0 in the other game of group C thanks to a Mohamed Bangoura second half strike.
Uganda will hope to redeem themselves against Guinea on Friday night while Algeria will take on South Africa on the same day.
