Uganda Premier League side Mbarara City FC has appointed Simon Peter Mugerwa as their new head coach.
Mugerwa is a CAF A licensed coach and has been unemployed at club level since his Police FC departure in April this year.
He replaces Charles Livingston Mbabazi who was sacked by the club before the climax of last season.
Following the departure of Mbabazi, the Ankole Lions were under the interim stewardship of Zaidi Byekwaso who guided the side to games against Wakiso Giants, Lugazi FC, Express FC and Maroons FC.
Newly promoted UPL sides Buhimba United Saints and Calvary FC were the other sides scrambling for Mugerwa’s signature but the tactician has decided to join Mbarara City on a two deal.
Mugerwa is currently handling Kyaggwe in the prestigious Buganda Kingdom organized Masaza Cup championship.
His side finished the first round of the Masaza Cup competition on top of Muganzirwazza group with 11 points.
Besides Police where he won the 2023/24 FUFA Big League title, Mugerwa has been at several clubs including Fire Masters, Sports Club Villa, (Assistant coach), Soltilo Bright Stars(Assistant/ interim Head coach), and recently Proline FC (Head coach).
In the Masaza Cup, he served at Buddu and guided both Bulemeezi (2019) and Busiro (2022) to the prestigious Buganda Masaza Cup triumphs.
