Nine matches were played on Match day nine of the prestigious Buganda Masaza Cup over the weekend.

In Muganzirwazza Group, Kyaggwe secured a place in the quarterfinals with a narrow 1-0 home win over Mawogola thanks to Marvin Busulwa’s second half penalty.

Ssingo and Butambala shared spoils in a 1-1 draw at Mityana Ssaza Ground, Daniel Bakaki had given Butambala the lead before Shaban Kayongo restored parity for the hosts.

With 18 points they have garnered in eight matches, Kyaggwe are the first team to advance to the last eight. The battle for second is between Kkooki and Ssingo who are on 12 and 11 points respectively in Muganzirwazza.

In Bulange Group, reigning champions Buddu suffered defeat once again at Kitovu Sports Arena with Busiro maximizing points in a 1-0 victory on Sunday.

Bruhan Tusaba scored the all important goal for Busiro in the first half of the contest over Buddu.

Buddu will have to prepare for a miracle if they are to advance past the group stage. They are currently fourth in the group with 9 points and need to maximize points in their remaining two games to stand a chance of progressing to the last eight.

Meanwhile, Busujju played out to a goalless stalemate with Buluuli in the other game in Bulange Group.

Buluuli and Busujju need at least one win to seal slots in the quarterfinals of the competition. Both are on 15 points.

Buweekula suffered their first defeat of the campaign at Bugerere on Sunday.

Bugerere prevailed 2-1 over Buweekula in a Masengere Group contest with Mike Katumwa and Henry Wamala scoring for Bugerere while Alex Talemwa found a consolation for Buweekula.

Buweekula is currently on 16 points and need just a draw to secure a slot in the quarterfinals while Bugerere must maximize three more points in their remaining matches to reach the last eight.

Mawokota needed a late Kasule Mike strike to overcome Bulemeezi at Buwama playgrounds.

Mawokota are now third in Masengere Group with 12 points following their 1-0 win over Bulemeezi.

 

Kyaddondo shred Buvuma 5-0 at Nakivubo in the other Masengere group game thanks to braces from Abasi Muluya and Enock Ssekatawa and Ivorex Kalungi goal.
