Uganda Premier League record champions SC Villa are in talks with former New York Red Bulls striker Frank Ssebufu, Swift Sports Uganda understands.
Ssebufu is currently a free agent following his departure at New York Red Bulls in December last year.
When his contract at New York Red Bulls expired the club didn’t exercise the option for extension.
The Jogoos are expected to offer him a two year employment contract but face stiff competition from Kenyan giants Gor Mahia who are also after Ssebufu’s signature.
The lanky forward joined the Ibrahim Ssekagya coached team in March 2023 from Uganda Premier League side Wakiso Giants.
He played a total of 55 games for New York Red Bulls II, scored a total of 10 goals and provided eight assists in the process.
In the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro season, Ssebufu played 26 games, scored one goal and provided four assists.
SC Villa have so far beefed up their squad with the acquisition of Ibrahim Kasinde, goalkeeper David Lukwago and Geoffrey Gagganga.
