Ghana’s Black Stars seal World Cup qualification with victory over Comoros

Ghana’s Black Stars became the 5th African team to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup following their 1-0 win over Comoros in a Group I encounter played at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Tottenham Hotspur forward Mohamed Kudus scored the all important goal that ultimately sealed qualification in the 47th minute of the game.

Kudus was on the receiving end of a Thomas Partey ball to tap in from close range and consequently send the Ghanaian fans into a bouncing frenzy.

The slim but important victory took Ghana to 25 points, six more than second placed Madagascar who finished with 19 points.

The Black Stars have been impressive throughout the qualification campaign winning eight of the 10 games played, drawing once and losing the other.

Ghana joins Morocco, Egypt, Algeria and Tunisia as the only African teams that have so far qualified for the World Cup.

This also becomes the 5th time Ghana has qualified for the World Cup having previously been there in 2006 (Germany), 2010 (South Africa), 2014 (Brazil) and 2022 in Qatar.
