Uganda Cubs head coach Brian Ssenyondo has confirmed the team captains for the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup due in Qatar.
The Cubs kick off their maiden World Cup campaign against Canada on Wednesday, 5th November 2025 at 6:45PM.
Defender Richard Okello has been named as the team captain for the global showpiece in the Gulf.
“Okello Richard is our captain and he is leading the team. He is leading us to Qatar till when the edition is done because it is also his last with the U-17s. He has qualified the team to the World Cup. He has not finished his role. So we still maintain him.” Said Ssenyondo while naming Okello as captain
Okello will on Wednesday evening lead the team out of the tunnel in search of a historic World Cup triumph.
He will be assisted by Walusimbi Abubakali, Sengooba Hamuza and Bogere James.
After their opener against Canada on Wednesday Uganda will then tussle it out with Chile on Saturday 8th of the same month.
Uganda will then battle with France on Tuesday, 11th November 2025.
The top two nations in each group automatically qualify for the knockout rounds, while the eight best third-place teams will also proceed further.
The expanded tournament the largest in the history of the U-17 World Cup will feature 48 teams for the first time and will be held from 3 to 27 November 2025 in Qatar.
