Uganda Cubs, Tanzania secure 2026 U17 AFCON Slots

Uganda and Tanzania have qualified for the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations final tournament following their respective triumphs in the CECAFA U-17 semis.

Uganda beat Ethiopia 3-0 while Tanzania (Junior Taifa Stars) overcame Kenya 3-1 in the semifinals of the CECAFA U17 championships in Ethiopia.

The Cubs needed second half goals from Lorian Lwesibawa (brace) and Thomas Ogema netted the other.


Lwesibawa scored his first goal in the 52nd minute before Ogema doubled their lead two minutes later.

Lwesibawa completed the scoring in the 78th minute as the Cubs secured a slot in next year’s continental showpiece.

Uganda will battle with Tanzania in the final of the CECAFA U17 due on Tuesday, 2nd December at the Abebe Bikila Stadium in Ethiopia.

Hosts Ethiopia and Kenya will face off in the bronze medal match.

The 2026 U17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is scheduled in Morocco next year with the top ten teams progressing to the World Cup due in 2028.
