URA FC are in advanced negotiations with Sam Ssimbwa to become their new head coach, Swift Sports understands.

Ssimbwa is currently a free agent after leaving his designation as the Uganda Cranes assistant coach recently.

Swift Sports understands that both URA FC and Ssimbwa are exploring the possibility of a reunion with an agreement imminent.

Ssimbwa previously coached URA FC between 2018 and 2021 and came close to winning the league title in his final season before being relieved off his duties.

The Tax Collectors are optimistic Ssimbwa is the best suited candidate to turn things around following a disappointing start to the season.

The club has struggled to get positive results and currently sit 10th on the table with only 11 points from as many games played.

Hussien Mbalangu and Morley Byekwaso are some of the other candidates that have been in the race for the club’s vacant head coach role.

The club has been under the tutelage of Edward Golola, who is designated as an assistant coach, since the departure of Alex Isabirye.

Ssimbwa is one of the most experienced and decorated coaches in the country having coached a number of clubs in Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya.

He previously coached clubs like Entebbe Health, Military Police, Mbale Heroes, SC Victoria University, Express, KCCA, SC Villa, Soana, Police (Rwanda) and Kenya’s Sofapaka among others.
