Record Uganda Premier League champions SC Villa beat bitter rivals Express FC 1-0 on Thursday at Hamz Stadium in Nakivubo.
Express came into the game after defeats at Entebbe UPPC and Maroons while SC Villa needed to close the gap on leaders Vipers SC.
In the 15th minute, Frank Ssebuufu rose highest to give the Jogoos the lead off a well delivered Najib Yiga corner kick.
The Red Eagles came close to restoring parity when SC Villa goalkeeper David Lukwago denied Muhammad Ssenoga in the 38th minute.
Express had more of the ball in the second half and again came close in the 75th minute when Mikidadi Ssenyonga’s long range shot was saved by Lukwago.
Villa held on to clinch maximum points at their rivals and are now third on the log with 26 points same as second placed KCCA and one adrift of leaders Vipers SC.
Jimmy Kintu Mwera’s Red Eagles are 11th on the table with 12th points and next host Buhimba United Saints on January 23rd January while SC Villa next visit a recharged Alex Isabirye’s BUL FC.
