KOBs Rugby Club has turned a new page following the election of a new Executive Committee at a meeting held on Sunday at the Nob View Hotel in Ntinda.

The transition marks the start of a renewed push to restore competitiveness on the pitch and strengthen the club’s long-term foundations.

Leading the club into this new chapter is Darren Rutagwera, who assumes the role of Chairperson after serving as Vice Chairperson.

He is joined by Simon Peter Kasito as Vice Chairperson, Richard Mutabazi as Secretary, and Muriel Aloka Atai, who continues as Treasurer after overseeing a period of improved financial discipline.

Edrine Ssempebwa will represent the players, while Brian Odong has been appointed Director of Rugby to guide the club’s technical direction.

Speaking after his election, Rutagwera acknowledged the challenges KOBs has faced in recent seasons but expressed confidence in the club’s future.

He noted that the new committee is focused on improving performance by strengthening the coaching structure, placing the right people in key roles, and building a balanced and competitive squad.

He also pointed to finances as a major challenge for modern rugby clubs, revealing that KOBs is pursuing targeted sponsorship partnerships to support its ambitions.

Beyond performance, the new leadership is keen to deepen the club’s connection with its community, reinforcing the belief that the strength of the club extends beyond the field of play.

Restoring KOBs’ proud culture is central to the new administration’s vision, with plans to rebuild a winning mentality within the next 12 to 18 months.

Rutagwera emphasized the importance of continuity in the treasury, stronger communication through the secretariat, and the addition of a Director of Rugby to drive technical growth.

Founded in 1963, KOBs is one of Uganda’s most decorated rugby clubs, with 13 Premiership titles, nine Uganda Cup triumphs and National 7s championships to its name.

The club is currently celebrating its diamond jubilee. Voting at the meeting was restricted to fully paid members, who are also entitled to access the club’s full technical and financial reports.

KOBs Rugby Club congratulates the newly elected Executive Committee and wishes them success as they work to restore the club’s winning culture and secure a sustainable future on and off the pitch.
