While addressing the media at the federation offices in Kampala, Assistant General Secretary Uganda Athletics Namayo Mawerere and Publicist Abdallah Muhammed expressed their readiness for the event.
“We take this event with a lot of seriousness, the route will remain the same as last year. We have over 200 runners who have already registered to take part in the 21Km event.”
“This event gives opportunity for athletes to earn something in cash prizes. It’s an opportunity for the runners to showcase their potential and be part of the national team.” Said Muhammed

Mawerere revealed that event will boost the tourism industry in Jinja and also asserted that they expect a huge number of elite athletes
“This is the biggest event in Busoga region and started in 2009 and it’s a huge boost to the tourism industry in the region. The venue is set and I believe it’s going to be a very fast event. Jinja City is ready to host a big number of elite athletes.” Said Mawerere

Chebet Sabir of Prisons won the women’s category last year with a time of 1:12:25, beating Uganda Wildlife Authority’s Annet Chelangat (1:13:19) while Arua’s Mark Kiptoo (1:01:56) was outstanding in the men’s event with UWA’s Oscar Kibet finishing second (1:02:16).
