SC Villa edge Maroons to close Gap on Leaders Vipers

SC Villa returned to winning ways with a 2-0 win over Maroons FC under the lights of FUFA Kadiba Stadium on Thursday.

The Jogoos came into the contest back of two goalless stalemates against Lugazi FC and URA FC and needed to maximize points to reignite their title talk.

Frank Ssebufu who has the culprit for missing several scoring opportunities in the previous two games and Andrew Otim scored in either half to hand Zeljko Kovacevic’s men three points.

Ssebufu gave the record league champions an early lead in the second minute of the game.

Villa like they always do, created several chances in the first half with Patrick Jonah Kakende having his effort cleared off the line by Nicholas Kigozi.

Najib Yiga also had a brilliant opportunity to double Villa’s lead but hit the side net.

In the second period, Reagan Mpande who replaced Kakande had a his effort saved by goalkeeper Matovu who moments later denied Hassan Mubiru.

Otim who replaced Ssebufu in the 84th minute doubled Villa’s advantage after being fed by Mpande.

SC Villa are now fourth placed with 34 points and four adrift of leaders Vipers while Maroons remain ninth on 18 points.
