Young Elephant Academy 3-1 Iganga United
Young Elephant Academy recorded an emphatic 3-1 win over Iganga United at the Elephant’s Park in Nwoya to keep topflight promotion hopes intact.
The victory was orchestrated by Young Elephant’s talisman Isaac Gumperom who scored a brace and consequently took his personal tally to 10 goals this season.
Gumperom gave the home side an early lead with a penalty in the 14th minute but Iganga equalized through Eric Wazuzibu in the 70th minute from a corner kick situation.
Francis Mukasa restored Young Elephant’s lead in the 83rd minute before Gumperom put the icing on the cake at the stroke of normal time.
The victory took Young Elephant to 27 points, and keeps them in touching distance with the top four positions which are occupied by Ntugasaze FC, Paidha Black Angels, Kigezi Homeboyz and Blacks Power respectively.
All the top four teams are tied on 29 points and are only separated by head-to-head tiebreakers.
Defeat for Iganga keeps them in the mid table, 9th with 23 points with hopes of promotion seemingly diminished gradually.
Young Elephant will visit Kaaro Karungi on March 8th in their next game while Iganga United will host promotion hopefuls Blacks Power on the same day.
