Gov’t allocates funds to FUFA for Kadiba Stadium upgrades and Uganda Cranes AFCON 2027 preps

The Uganda government has confirmed that it will give FUFA funds for Uganda Cranes and upgrade at FUFA Kadiba Stadium ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations that will be co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.

According to the latest developments, FUFA will receive Shs17.7Bn for both Kadiba upgrades and Uganda Cranes.

The government has allocated Shs12.55Bn for Uganda Cranes preparations aimed ahead of the AFCON 2027 showpiece.

The other funds will be for the upgrade of FUFA Kadiba Stadium as a Training Facility for AFCON-2027.

Dennis Mugimba confirmed that President of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni approved additional funding of Shs905Bn towards meeting critical inter-sectoral funding and administrative requirements for AFCON 2027.

It should be noted that In 2024, the Cabinet approved an allocation of Ugx. 1.35 trillion for the infrastructural, logistical, and operational costs of preparations for the co-hosting CHAN-2024 in August 2025 and AFCON-2027. This figure included payment of USD13 million and USD30 million to CAF as individual co-host obligatory commitment fees for CHAN-2024 and AFCON-2027 respectively.

Meanwhile, Uganda shall have two primary competition stadiums that is Mandela National Stadium (Namboole) in Kira Municipality, Wakiso District and Hoima City Stadium in Hoima City.
The competition of the infrastructure for AFCON: that is, the two competition stadiums and their attendant eight (8) Training Facilities must be complete by January 2027 –that is, nine (9) months from today.
