Kitende bags Shs738M at CAF Schools football Championship despite defeat to Senegal

St.Mary’s Kitende suffered a penalty shootout defeat to Senegal during the final of the CAF African Schools championship that held in Harare City of Zimbabwe.

Kitende who were Uganda’s representatives at the event lost 5-4 on penalties to the West African side at Ngoni Stadium.

The Confederation of African Football president Patrice Motsepe graced the climax of the event on Friday.

Despite defeat, Kitende who topped their Group A with seven point before eliminating Benin at the semifinal stage bagged $200,0000 (Shs738M) each.

Winners Senegal bagged $300,000( Shs1Bn) while each of the bronze medalists will earn $150,000 (Shs 554M).

Meanwhile, Ghana won the girls final beating Burkina Faso 9-8 on penalties to retain the title.

Uganda’s matches at the championship:

Group A:

Match 1: Zimbabwe 1-1 Uganda
Match 2: Uganda 6-0 Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)
Match 3: Uganda 3-0 Morocco
Semi-final:

Uganda 0 (4) – 0 (3) Benin
Final:

Uganda 0 (4) – 0(5) Senegal
