Forward Richard Basangwa was rushed to hospital after suffering a serious injury during the goalless stalemate between his NEC side and Express FC on Tuesday at Hamz Stadium in Nakivubo.
Basangwa who was facing his former paymasters was stretched off in the final minutes of the contest following a horrendous challenge from Express defender Glory Kisule.
The Express defender elbowed Basangwa on the neck who remained down on the pitch fighting for his dear life with the referee taking action to sending off Kisule.
Basangwa remained in critical condition as medical personnels attended to him.
The hosting team didn’t have a a functional ambulance at the stadium and the one at the venue had no medical equipment.
It also had a flat tire and the injured Basangwa was rushed to hospital by a Toyota Land Cruiser from one of NEC officials.
Express under the stewardship of Jimmy Kintu were searching for a fourth consecutive league win after wins against URA FC, Police FC, UPDF FC but settled for a goalless draw against NEC.
NEC remain unbeaten in the second round of the season and gone seven matches without conceding a goal in the league.
The result leaves NEC in 5th with 41 points while Express sit 10th with 30 points, 15 above the drop zone.
Express will host BUL who suffered a 5-2 home defeat to UPDF on April 24 while NEC will welcome Mbarara City at Lugogo on the same date.
