Kitara FC cut the gap on Uganda Premier League table leaders Vipers SC with a 2-0 victory over fellow title chasers SC Villa on Thursday at Royals Park in Butema.

First half goals from Patrick Henry Kaddu and Yunusu Sibira handed Kitara maximum points over the Jogoos.

The Royals go second after their remarkable win over the record league champions and are now five points behind the Venoms.

For Villa, defeat dents their title hopes with four games to the climax of the season and are eight points below leaders Vipers.

Kaddu gave the hosts the lead in the 28th minute after being fed by Sibira.

Villa’s top scorer in the league this term Frank Ssebuufu had a decent chance to level matters before halftime breather but his header went wide.

Moments later, Kitara doubled their lead through Sibira who was assisted by Jimmy Kalema to head into the break with a comfortable lead.

In the second period, Ssebufu once again had a decent opportunity but Kitara goalkeeper Meddie Kibirige a former Jogoo denied him.

Kitara maximized points at the end and are now second with 54 points while Villa are fourth on 51 points.

Both sides will now turn focus on the Stanbic Uganda Cup semifinal first lega with Kitara FC taking on Vipers on Sunday before Villa visit URA FC on Monday.
