Kitara FC and Vipers SC played out to a goalles stalemate during their Stanbic Uganda Cup semifinal first leg at Royals Park in Butema on Sunday.
The two sides had previously met in the league two weeks ago and this was the third consecutive time that they were facing each in the Stanbic Uganda Cup.
In 2024, Kitara eliminated Vipers at the quarterfinal stage before the Venoms avenged last term beating the Royals 1-0 home and away.
On Sunday, Kitara nearly took an early lead through Patrick Henry Kaddu’s long range effort but Dennis Kiggundu made a finger tip save.
Gaddafi Wahab also came close at the half hour mark but his low shot was saved by Kiggundu.
The Venoms were forced into a change in the first period when their skipper Milton Karisa suffered an injury off a tackle from Jasper Aheebwa.
Karisa was replaced by Marvin Young man.
In the second period, Kiggundu twice denied Kabon Living as the Venoms kept the Royals at bay.
The two sides will wait the return leg due at St Mary’s Stadium in Kitende with the aggregate winner advancing to the final.
Meanwhile, nine time Uganda Cup champions SC Villa will visit three time winners URA FC under the lights of Nakivubo Monday in the other semifinal.
