SC Villa assistant coach Ibrahim Kirya asserts that the club’s title loss in the just concluded season is not only on the referees poor decisions.

Vipers finished the season as champions with 67 points to clinch their eighth title in history while SC Villa who are the record league winners were third on the log with 61 points.

Kirya who serves as Zeljko Kovacevic’s right man however believes the title loss is not just about the refereeing errors

“Whenever you start the season, the target is always winning the title until things turn against you just like it happened to us. Games against Express FC and Police affected us though we remained competitive until the end .” Said Kirya

In both matches against Police and Express, Villa had a legit goal wrongly disallowed by an incompetent flag by the assistant referee.

On whether the referees’ mistakes affected the club’s title chances, Kirya told NBS Sports that,

“That is our officiation, even in Europe they make mistakes, so it’s not only in Uganda. We all saw what happened in the Arsenal game, West Ham had scored a late goal that could have halted Arsenal’s title triumph until the referee overturned it so all that happens in football.” Said Kirya

Kirya who guided SC Villa to their ninth Stanbic Uganda Cup triumph in the replayed final against KCCA eleven years ago will be hoping the Jogoos triumph over Kitara to clinch a record equalling tenth title at FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru this Saturday.
